On this day in 1896, the ancient Olympic Games were reborn in Athens - 1,500 years after Roman Emperor Theodosius I had banned the original olympics. A crowd of 60,000 cheered on as athletes from 13 nations competed in the new, Modern Olympics international competition. I've been in the stadium where the modern Olympics were first held in 1896, but I attended during the 2004 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad. Do any of you remember your roman numerals so you can figure out which Olympiad the XXVIII is?

I can't find pictures from when I was there during the Olympics, but I've included one I took 2 summers ago. I was at a rock concert for my birthday. I climbed up the marble steps to get a good photo of the Parthenon on top of the Acropolis. Can you see it in the distance?
